Thanks for your interest in our 2024 BWCA Trip! Here is some info about the trip:
Who: Current 11th-12th grade LOC Youth (2023-24 school year) + Awesome Adult Leaders
When: Dates TBD - depending on availability of participants and permits, which will be purchased in Jan 2024
What: A life-changing summer trip in the BWCA in northern MN (through Ely, MN). Youth will be challenged and changed through time spent outdoors in God's gorgeous creation! Each day will include lots of bonding, making meals together, hiking/caoneing/swimming/fishing, nightly worship and tons of fellowship! Participants will need to be able to take on the physical challenges of the trip, including canoeing, portaging gear (such as canoes, paddles, packs, etc), and be willing to sleep in a tent. Most gear will be provided/rented (through North Country Canoe Outfitters - the first night will also be spent here in the bunkhouse). Every trip is an amazing experience and we strongly believe it'll be life-changing for all those who attend!
Spaces: At this point, we have 7 youth spaces (each permit is for 9 people and we'll have 2 adults - one male and one female). If we have more than 7 youth interested, we'll discuss the possibility of a second permit/group but we'd enter at different points and aren't able to stay on the same campsites. So, the first 7 to sign up will be guaranteed a spot and then after that, spaces will be TBD. Jennifer Slipka will be the adult leader for this trip (along with one adult male, TBD).
Registration Deadline: Wed, 11/29/23 - Pay the $100 deposit to "LOC Youth" and complete this form to secure your spot.
Cost per Person: TBD but under $500. A $50-100 scholarship will be provided for each youth participant (depending on the cost) as well as fundraising opportunities. We are hopeful that we will cover the cost for each adult who attends.
Adult Leaders: Must be 21 years or older, be willing to help with fundraising efforts and attend fellowship events (as able), lead a small group of HS youth in discussion (along with other leadership areas on the trip) and be willing to have a multi-state background check conducted. Preference will be given to adults who have BWCA experience and those who have worked with youth in past (on a previous trip, as a Guide, etc).

Do you grant Light of Christ Lutheran Church the right to take photographs in connection with this trip? Do you authorize Light of Christ Lutheran Church to use such photographs for any lawful purpose, including, for example, appearing in print or online promoting Light of Christ's activities, promotional brochures, worship presentations, or Light of Christ's Facebook page? I further understand that if I give my permission, my child's name will not be used to identify my child. My permission will be kept on file in the church office (yearly), and if I would like to withdraw my permission, I may do so by contacting the church office.
I/we hereby release Light of Christ Lutheran Church, its employees, agents and volunteers, from any and all liability, claims, demands, causes of action and possible causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage or injury (including death) that may be sustained by my child or myself (name listed in this form) while participating in this trip and/or traveling to and from an event at Light of Christ.
I/we understand that personal injury or illness can and may occur to my child while in attendance at church sponsored events and I hereby authorize a representative of Light of Christ Lutheran Church to seek and consent to emergency medical treatment, dental care, surgery or hospitalization for my child as needed during the period of my/our absence; and I further agree to be liable for and to pay all costs incurred in connection with such medical/dental attention.
